The Alliance for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender and Questioning Youth

The Alliance for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (GLBTQ) Youth is a service partnership proudly funded by The Children’s Trust. The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth services all of Miami-Dade County in partnership with Jewish Community Services, Safe Schools South Florida, YES Institute, Pridelines, Equality Florida, Miami Bridge, and Family Counseling. In addition, the Alliance for GLBTQ Youth is supported by numerous collaborators including Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays, Sexual Minority Youth Network, The Village, Care Resource, The United Way of Miami-Dade, South Florida AIDS Network and South Beach AIDS Project.

The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth is working hard in implementing a comprehensive service for prevention and early intervention at the individual and family level. In addition, we make every effort to protect the development of self-identity for all adolescents and promote acceptance in the Miami-Date County.

Target Population

GLBTQ youth are among the most vulnerable children. The body research literature is just beginning to flourish, but the previous decade of research finds exceptionally high rates of suicide, attempted suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, drop out, homelessness and sexual risk-taking among young people who self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth focuses on this county-wide at risk group and their families for several reasons. First, the proper security needed for sexual orientation self-acceptance are largely absent for GLBT youth. This is a society problem and the reason why the Alliance also focuses on the adults – parents, teachers, health care practitioners, and community stakeholders. Second, the “need” has shown itself to exist in every socioeconomic, demographic, and geographic furrow of Miami-Dade. This is why the Alliance for GLBTQ Youth serves the entire county.

The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth is funded by The Children's Trust. The Children's Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.
